Tartan & Kilt

The Tartan patterns were simply different regional checked-cloth patterns, chosen by the wearer's preference—in the same way as people nowadays choose what colors and patterns they like in their clothing, without particular reference to propriety. It was not until the mid-nineteenth century that many patterns were created and artificially associated with Scottish clans, families, or institutions who were (or wished to be seen as) associated in some way with a Scottish heritageAnd a kilt is a knee-length non-bifurcated skirt-type garment, with pleats at the back, originating in the traditional dress of Gaelic men and boys in the Scottish Highlands. It is first recorded in the 16th century as the great kilt, a full-length garment whose upper half could be worn as a cloak.

The primary Gordon  on record is Richard of Gordon, already of Swinton, said to have been the grandson of a celebrated knight who slew some gigantic creature in the Merse amid the season of King Malcolm III of Scotland. This Richard was Lord of the Barony of Gordon in the Merse. Richard de (of) Gordon most likely passed on in around 1200. Between 1150 and 1160 he allowed from his bequest a land parcel to the Monks of St. Mary at Kelso, a concede which was affirmed by his child Thomas Gordon. Other outstanding Gordons from this time incorporate Bertram de Gordon who injured King Richard of England with a bolt at Châlons.
Alicia Gordon, IV of the Gordon family was the beneficiary who wedded her cousin, Adam Gordon. Adam Gordon was a trooper who King Alexander III of Scotland sent with King Louis of France to Palestine. One custom is that from Adam's grandson, Sir Adam, the majority of the Gordons in Scotland are descended.* This Adam Gordon upheld Sir William Wallace in 1297 to recover the Castle of Wigtown from the English and Adam was made the Governor.

Design Of Gordon Dress Tartan kilt

The Scottish kilt displays uniqueness of design, construction, and convention which differentiate it from other garments fitting the general description. It is a tailored garment that is wrapped around the wearer's body at the natural waist (between the lowest rib and the hip) starting from one side (usually the wearer's left), around the front and back and across the front again to the opposite side. The fastenings consist of straps and buckles on both ends, the strap on the inside end usually passing through a slit in the waistband to be buckled on the outside; alternatively it may remain inside the waistband and be buckled inside.
